County Ref Commended After Officiating 1,000 Games

Tuesday evening (29th September) provided assistant referee John Clark with a very special milestone, as the Northamptonshire official took charge of his 1000th competitive fixture.

Assistant referee John ran the line for Tuesday evening’s United Counties League fixture between Desborough Town and Harborough Town.

Prior to kick-off, John was presented with a special commendation by Kevin Shoemake, CEO of the Northamptonshire FA.

Now aged 61, John’s first game as an assistant referee came in 1974, forming part of the officials’ team that took charge of a fierce derby fixture between Stamford and Spalding. In addition to refereeing football, John also umpires cricket in the summer.

Everybody at the Northamptonshire County FA would like to congratulate John on reaching such an incredible landmark – and would also like to take the opportunity to thank him for his many years of distinguished service to local grassroots football.

Congratulations from us all at the Northampton RA

Roy Ainge

The Northants RA is deeply saddened and shocked by the sudden passing of Roy Ainge.

Northamtpon FA News – Roy Ainge

Kathryn Hall of the Northants FA summed Roy up perfectly with her message:

“A sad time for many across the County involved in football following the sudden and sad passing of Roy Ainge. Roy gave so much to grassroots football, always had a cheeky joke to make and always had a smile on his face. He will be so dearly missed. Thoughts with Sue, Hannah, Harry, Lee and his partner in crime Anthony Major.”

Joel Richards

If you wish to donate to help the family of Joel at this very tragic time for them, please see the following page:

A message from the Chairman:

Guys, anything, however small you can donate would be massively appreciated by this family at this terribly difficult time.

If you were going to buy lunch out this week can you sacrifice that money and make a sandwich yourself?

Every penny helps.

I will personally donate my travelling expenses from RA Conference next weekend to the family.

Please remember to include Northampton RA in any donation you make to show that the money is coming from refereeing families from all over the country.

Many thanks in advance

Kind Regards

Stuart Burt

From Luke Scott

This Wednesday, 24th June, sees Northamptonshire FA’s first fitness session for referees, being run by Premier League & FIFA assistant referee Stuart Burt.  The session is taking place at Wootton Hall, Northampton, NN4 0JQ, and will commence at 18:30, not 19:00 as previously advertised.  This is the first of a number of sessions which will be taking place across a number of different venues across the County, all aimed at giving referees the opportunity to improve their fitness, and give them some ideas about good ways to train.  Referees of all ages, levels and fitness levels are encouraged to attend these sessions.  Promotion candidates and development group referees are expected to attend.

I would like to take this opportunity to remind all referees attending that there are no shower facilities at the venue.  It is extremely important that everyone brings a drink and a snack for straight after the session so that you can get food on board straight away.  It is also recommended that you try and have some food about an hour before the session starts to ensure that energy levels are high for the session.

I look forward to seeing as many of you there as possible, taking this fantastic opportunity to improve your fitness, and pick up some training tips from one of the leading assistant referees in the Country.

“If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you.”

There will be a Whole Game System workshop/help session to discuss re-registration & misconduct reporting via the system on Monday 30th March 201519:00 at Northants FA County Offices.  If you wish to attend this session, please do email Luke to let him know that you will be coming.

Well it only seems five minutes ago that I wrote last years Christmas message but here goes for my last one as Chairman of the Northampton Referees As-sociation (RA). We have had a few changes of late for our RA, most notably with the change of premises for our monthly meetings which I am happy to say seems to have gone down very well with our members.

We, the committee, have again tried our best to get high profile but varied types of guest speaker and I can only hope that you, the members, are enjoying the one’s we have had so far this season.

Can I take this opportunity of thanking everyone who has helped in making the Northampton RA what it is and hope that that work continues, not only for the remainder of this season but beyond as well.

As most of you know we have the Sports Quiz in December this year due to the January meeting being moved back a week as the first Thursday falls on New Years Day so by the time you get this message you may either know who the winners and losers are but most of all I hope you enjoyed the evening.

As always, If you have anything which you think will help us improve our meetings and/or the RA in general then please feel free to advise us. I am hoping it will be a great second part to the season as we have some fantastic speakers lined up for the remainder of the campaign.

I hope your season is going well but if there is anything the RA can do to help or advise you then please come along to the meetings to see if and what we can do for you.

I will finish this article off by wishing you and your families a very happy and healthy Christmas and prosperous New Year for 2015.

Yours in sport,

Brendan Doherty. Northampton RA Chairman

NRA Meeting Thursday 4th September 18:30 start

As ever, we are kicking off the season with a practical session at Wootton Hall HQ. This meeting will start at 6.30pm.
We have three different sessions running on this evening which will be followed up in the room afterwards.
Session 1 : Offsides – can you beat the offside trap? Can you spot the offside attacker? We’ll be filming offside scenarios and checking the results afterwards! This is always a lot of fun and great for development. David Avent and myself will be running this session.
Session 2: Assisting the Referee – FIFA Official Peter Kirkup will be talking through scenarios and discussing when and where to get involved.
Session 3: Managing set-pieces – New RDO and licensed FA tutor Luke Scott will be looking at a range of set pieces and how they can be managed. Again this will be filmed for feedback afterwards.
We hope that you can all make it to these sessions. We are really lucky to be able to utilise the experience within the Association. Bring your boots, bring your own experience and bring your enthusiasm for what promises to be a fun and informative evening!
